Queen's Counsel Appointments Made
Justice Minister Robbie Harrison announced the appointment of 12 lawyers as Queen's Counsel today.
The appointees are:
Alexander S. Beveridge, Halifax Frederick P. Crooks, Halifax Anthony L. Chapman, Halifax David G. Eldridge, Barrington Craig M. Garson, Halifax Dana W. Giovannetti, Halifax Dara L. Gordon, Wolfville Mark E. MacDonald, Halifax Srinivasen P. Pillay, Halifax Christopher C. Robinson, Halifax Robert C. Stewart, Berwick George L. White, Truro
"These appointees are being recognized for their professionalism,
leadership and commitment to excellence," said Mr. Harrison.
"Today we acknowledge the important contribution they have made
to the legal community in this province."
Eligibility criteria for Queen's Counsel appointments include:
professional integrity; outstanding contributions to the practice
of law; an exceptional contribution through teaching or
continuing legal education; demonstration of exceptional
qualities of leadership in the profession; or engaging in
activities of a public or charitable nature in such a way as to
raise the esteem in which the legal profession is held by the
public.
Recommendations were made to Cabinet by a Queen's Counsel Advisory Committee, chaired by Justice Doane Hallet. Additional members of the committee included: Blaine Allaby, Q.C.; Roberta Clarke, Q.C.; Robert MacKeigan, Q.C.; Arthur Mollon, Q.C.; Joel Pink, Q.C.; John Young, Q.C.; Dr. Daureen Lewis; and Malcolm MacLeod, Q.C.. Committee members were appointed by the Minister of Justice and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
