Moose Licence Draw Deadline Nears

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The deadline to apply for a moose-hunting licence is fast approaching, Natural Resources Minister Kennie MacAskill reminded hunters today.

Applications must be postmarked by May 27 or dropped off at a Department of Natural Resources office no later than 4:30 p.m. that day.

The draw for 200 moose licences will be held at the Middle River Community Hall, near Baddeck, on Wednesday, June 30, at 12:30 p.m. The hunt will take place this fall in Inverness and Victoria counties of Cape Breton within a two-week period in late September and early October. Dates of the hunt will be announced at the time of the draw or at a later date.

Applicants must be a resident of Nova Scotia and hold a Nova Scotia firearms hunting or bowhunter hunting certificate. Anyone who has had a licence since 1993 is not eligible.

A fee of $5.75, tax included, must be submitted with each application. The licence fee is $57.50, tax included.

Last fall, the 200 licenced hunters, drawn from 12,549 applicants, took 188 moose.
