Minister Requests Inquiry into Death of Sheppard

Justice

Justice Minister Michael Baker has asked the chief judge of the provincial court to hold an inquiry into the death of Warren Edward Sheppard.

Mr. Sheppard was killed March 13, 1996, in a Dartmouth small options home. A man charged in the death, Albert Ian MacDonald, was found not criminally responsible for the offence. Mr. MacDonald is currently committed to the Nova Scotia Hospital under that disposition.

The minister has requested a written report and recommendations arising from the inquiry be forwarded to him in accordance with Section 16 of the Fatality Inquiries Act.

"This inquiry will allow us to examine the circumstances surrounding this tragedy and provide the information that can help us to prevent one in future," said Mr. Baker.
