Chief Judge of Family Court Appointed

Justice

John D. Comeau has been appointed chief judge of the family court, Justice Minister Michael Baker announced today. The appointment is effective immediately.

Chief Judge Comeau has served with the family court since November of 1981, most recently as associate chief judge.

Chief Judge Comeau was called to the bar in 1973 after graduating from St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie Law School. He practiced privately in Digby at the firm of Albert and Comeau until his appointment in 1981.

He served as solicitor for the municipality of Digby and as Crown prosecutor for Digby County. He has a strong record of community service and activism.

"Chief Judge Comeau has provided exemplary service over the years, both in private practice and in his years with the family court," said Mr. Baker. "I know we will continue to benefit from his leadership and compassion and that he will continue to serve Nova Scotians well."
