Parks Day Celebrations, July 15

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Parks Day will be celebrated Saturday, July 15, at a number of provincial parks in Nova Scotia.

The third Saturday in July has been set aside for many years as Parks Day in national, provincial, territorial and municipal parks across the country.

"We have many beautiful parks in Nova Scotia which provide opportunities for outdoor recreation," said Natural Resources Minister Ernest Fage. "I hope all Nova Scotians and visitors to our province will participate in Parks Day by visiting a park or joining in some of the events."

There are more than 120 parks in the provincial system. They range from small daytime picnic sites to campgrounds and beaches.

Events planned in the province for Parks Day, through the Parks Are for People and Take A Hike programs, are:

  • Halifax County: canoeing, orienteering, fly tying, archery and a game of eye-spy wildlife at Dollar Lake Provincial Park

  • Cumberland County: a hike at Wentworth Provincial Park, and learn more about the importance of water in our lives at Amherst Shore Provincial Park

  • Kings County: kite-making at Blomidon Provincial Park

  • Annapolis County: a self-guided tour and treasure hunt at Upper Clements Wildlife Park

  • Queens County: learn about species at risk and take a hike at Thomas Raddall Provincial Park

  • Richmond County: a cultural history walk through Battery Provincial Park

  • Inverness County: a barbecue and concert at Whycocomagh Provincial Park

Brochures with more information on these events and other Parks Are for People activities are available at Department of Natural Resources offices and visitor information centres.
