Province Commits Lands for Conservation

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Natural Resources Minister Ernest Fage today announced an important land transfer that emphasizes the province's commitment to conservation.

Almost 112 hectares -- 276 acres -- of land in the Prospect High Head area of Halifax County, will be transferred to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. The local community has long supported the preservation of these lands. This collaboration is another example of the provincial government and the Nature Conservancy of Canada working to fulfil common conservation goals.

"The province and the Nature Conservancy of Canada are committed to working together on conserving ecologically significant lands," said Mr. Fage. "Conservation is important to the province, it's important to the conservancy and it's important to all Nova Scotians. Our government is dedicated to helping protect lands throughout the province whenever appropriate."

The Nature Conservancy of Canada will use the lands at Prospect High Head as a building block toward securing private lands in the area.

An official transfer ceremony will be held in late March.
