Department Offers Wood and Wildlife Seminars

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The Department of Natural Resources will be holding three, one-day seminars titled Wood and Wildlife on Your Woodlot between March 31 and April 21.

The seminars are part of an ongoing initiative to educate woodlot owners on effective and sustainable management of their properties.

Each seminar will include a morning session where presentations will be made regarding current wildlife populations in Nova Scotia and factors affecting the populations. Discussions will focus on the food and habitat that wildlife need to survive, and how tree harvesting can impact on these.

The afternoon session will focus on the efforts by government, industry and woodlot owners to sustain Nova Scotia’s forests. Woodlot owners will also have the opportunity to explore silviculture funding options for their woodland.

The seminars will be held on March 31 at the Wandlyn Inn in Bridgewater; April 7 in Room 24 of the Cox Institute at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, located on Pictou Road, Bible Hill; and April 21 at the Nautical Institute in Port Hawkesbury. All seminars take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Advance registration is available at any Natural Resources office for a fee of $10. Registration will also be accepted at the door beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the seminar for a fee of $15. Registration fees include lunch, refreshments and door prizes.
