Online Vehicle Renewals

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

The province is bringing in new services that make it easier for Nova Scotians to conduct secure, online business with the government.

Online motor-vehicle registration renewal and Service Nova Scotia Express computer terminals are open for business, Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, announced today.

"We’re improving services by using technology to make things easier for Nova Scotians to do business with government," said Mr. MacIsaac. "The motor-vehicle registration renewal is open for business 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is a major step toward our goal of providing services -- where, when and how our citizens want them."

Service Nova Scotia On-line Express, www.gov.ns.ca/snsmr , is a fast, secure and hassle-free way to renew vehicle registrations and to change address information with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Online renewals mean Nova Scotians now have four options to renew vehicle registrations -- in person, over the phone, by mail and online. Every year, Nova Scotians register approximately 300,000 vehicles.

Mr. MacIsaac added that Nova Scotians can look forward to more online government in the coming months. The province has plans to introduce Web-based vital-statistics services including online requests for birth, marriage and death certificates. Combined, there are more than 50,000 requests for these certificates each year.

"We recognize the need to satisfy the rapidly growing need for better access to government -- and that means equal availability for all citizens, no matter where they live,” Mr. MacIsaac said. “Technology is changing the way the world does business and we will keep stride."

Service Nova Scotia Express kiosks, new self-serve computer terminals, are being installed in every county through Access Nova Scotia and Registry of Deeds offices -- 22 kiosks in 19 office locations. They will allow citizens to obtain government services and products easier than ever before.

"Service Nova Scotia Express kiosks will see more and more Nova Scotians realizing the benefits of online government," said Mr. MacIsaac. "We are making strides to expand on maximizing these benefits by providing access to the necessary tools to do business with government."

Other on-line services available through Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations include the Personal Property Registry and the Nova Scotia Business Registry.
