Minister Receives Report on Family Violence Framework

Justice

A report examining the status and relevance of the Framework for Action Against Family Violence was delivered today to Justice Minister Michael Baker. Dawn Russell, Dean of Dalhousie Law School, and Professor Diana Ginn, also of Dalhousie Law School, provided the independent assessment.

In October Ms. Russell was asked to assess the Framework for Action Against Family Violence on a province-wide basis. The assessment was to ascertain whether additional action is needed to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of the framework for all components of the justice system.

"I wish to thank those who have assisted in the creation of this report," said Ms. Russell. "We received cooperation at every level and I am hopeful the findings will help to improve Nova Scotia’s response to incidents of family violence."

"I wish to thank Dean Russell and Professor Ginn for their work on this important project," said Mr. Baker. "We will now take a few weeks to examine the report, after which we will release the report along with our response."
