PUBLIC PROSECUTION SERVICE--Two New Crown Attorneys for New Glasgow

Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions, today announced the appointment of Del Atwood and Doug Lloy as Crown attorneys in New Glasgow.

The appointments are effective Feb. 27 and return the complement of Crown attorneys in New Glasgow to three.

A long-time resident of Pictou County, Mr. Atwood attended New Glasgow High School and received his undergraduate degree from St. Francis Xavier University in 1980. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1983.

He started his law career in private practice in New Glasgow. In 1986, Mr. Atwood became a staff solicitor with Nova Scotia Legal Aid and in 1992 was appointed Crown attorney for the Department of Justice in Newfoundland and Labrador. Four years later he was appointed a senior Crown attorney. Mr. Atwood has been active in his professional association and has published or presented several papers.

A native of Sydney, Mr. Lloy graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1989. He articled with Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales in Sydney and was admitted to the bar in 1990. He remained with Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales until he accepted a seven-month term as a Crown attorney in Sydney in 1993. Mr. Lloy then went back into private practice, becoming an associate in a small Sydney law firm.

In 1999 he was made a partner at Salter and Lloy Law Office. His practice included extensive per diem Crown attorney work in Cape Breton. Mr. Lloy is active on committees of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society and is the elected eastern Cape Breton representative to the bar council.
