Land Registration Act Changes Introduced

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

SERVICE N.S./MUNICIPAL RELATIONS--Land Registration Act Changes Introduced

Several amendments to the Land Registration Act were introduced today, April 3, by Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. The Land Registration Act is the foundation of the Registry 2000 Project, an initiative designed to modernize Nova Scotia's land registration system.

The amendments, which are of a technical nature, will help further the objectives of the Registry 2000 Project.

"This was a paper-based, time-consuming and often frustrating process," Mr. MacIsaac said. "It will become a state-of-the-art, user-friendly electronic system. These housekeeping amendments will clarify how the new land titles system operates and will help to ensure that the project proceeds on schedule."

The system will offer greater security to land owners and, among other benefits, will enable greater online access to users. Implementation is scheduled to begin across the province by the end of 2003.
