Queen's Counsel Appointments Announced

Justice

Justice Minister Michael Baker today announced the appointment of 12 lawyers as Queen's Counsel.

The appointees are:

  • M. Lee Cohen, Halifax
  • Erin O'Brien Edmonds, Halifax
  • Donald C. Murray, Dartmouth
  • Gregory P. Rafuse, Bridgewater
  • Harry Munro, New Glasgow
  • Nancy Isobel Murray, Halifax
  • Jonathan Davies, Halifax
  • Dell C. Wickens, Yarmouth
  • Kevin Coady, Halifax
  • Patrick L. Casey, Dartmouth
  • Jamie S. Campbell, Halifax

"These individuals are leaders in the legal community," said Mr. Baker. "I am pleased to acknowledge their contribution with these appointments. I sincerely want to thank the committee for their work in putting forward such an impressive list of candidates."

The criteria which must be met by the appointees include:
professional integrity, outstanding contributions to the practice of law, an exceptional contribution through teaching or continuing legal education, demonstration of exceptional qualities of leadership in the profession, or engaging in activities of a public or charitable nature in such a way as to raise the esteem in which the legal profession is held by the public.

Recommendations were made to cabinet by an advisory committee chaired by Chief Justice Joseph Kennedy. Additional members included Roberta Clarke, Q.C.; Daurene Lewis; Carmen McCormick, Q.C.; Arthur Mollon, Q.C.; Joel Pink, Q.C.; David Wallace, Q.C.; Derek Wells, Q.C.; and John Young, Q.C.
