The Nova Scotia government is contributing up to $350,000 toward the construction of a water storage tank for the town of Oxford.

The tank will ensure an abundant supply of water for the town's residents and businesses and will reduce pressure on pumps in the town's well field. Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, said today, Oct. 30, the province will pay half the cost of constructing the new tank to a maximum of $350,000.

"We're very pleased with this provincial contribution," said Oxford Mayor Lloyd Jenkins. "This project will help ensure that residents of Oxford continue to have a safe and reliable water supply, especially during peak demand."

Currently, well-field pumps feed water directly into the town's distribution system, often requiring the pumps to be operated at high pressure when water is in high demand.

Once the new tank is completed, the pumps will direct water into it. The tank will then gravity-feed water into the town's distribution system as it is needed, greatly reducing the amount of work required of the pumps in the well field.
