New Registry of Motor Vehicles Services in Sheet Harbour

SERVICE N.S./MUNICIPAL RELATIONS--New Registry of Motor Vehicles Services in Sheet Harbour

More Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) services are on the way to Sheet Harbour. As of Tuesday, April 15, residents will be able to register their vehicles, renew their driver's licences, and obtain photo IDs.

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, the department responsible for the Registry of Motor Vehicles, is opening a part-time RMV office in Suite 212 of the Bluewater Building. The office will be open on Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

"The new services offered in Sheet Harbour will benefit many people living in this part of Halifax County," said Peter Christie, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "For many, this will eliminate the need to drive to Dartmouth, New Glasgow or Truro to obtain these services."

Learner's exams and driver testing are already offered one day a month in Sheet Harbour.

The added services in Sheet Harbour mirror similar offerings in other rural communities across the province. One- or two-day a week RMVs are now operating in Guysborough, Liverpool, Shelburne and Windsor.

"Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations is always looking for innovative ways to improve its services in rural Nova Scotia," said Mr. Christie. "In Sheet Harbour, we are sharing space with the Department of Community Services. In our other locations, we share space with the Registry of Deeds."

In addition to its personal service option, motorists can renew their vehicle registrations or advise the RMV that they've moved through the department's Web site at www.accessns.ca , 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
