Minister Congratulates Police Graduates

Justice

Justice Minister Jamie Muir congratulated 20 graduates of the Atlantic Police Academy in ceremonies at Holland College, Summerside, P.E.I. today, May 9. Mr. Muir was guest speaker at this year's graduation.

"Communities in Nova Scotia and throughout Atlantic Canada are fortunate to have many of these well-trained graduates about to join municipal and provincial police services," said Mr. Muir. "We're proud of their accomplishments and wish them well as they prepare to serve the public by helping maintain law and order."

Six people from this year's graduating class, Squad 83, are from Nova Scotia. They were required to complete an intensive 32-week cadet program, which included 12 weeks of on-the-job training.

The Atlantic Police Academy was formed by the Council of Maritime Premiers as a police training centre for all municipal police officers in the Atlantic provinces. Today's graduation was held just two days before the beginning of National Police Week in North America, which runs May 11-17.
