SERVICE N.S./MUNICIPAL RELATIONS--Middleton Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade

The Nova Scotia government is helping the town of Middleton improve its sewage treatment plant.

The province will pay 50 per cent of the cost of upgrading the treatment plant's aeration system to a maximum of $47,000. Aeration uses air to break down raw sewage as part of the treatment process.

"Helping municipalities create a cleaner, healthier environment is a priority of our government," said Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Peter Christie. "We're glad we were able to help the town of Middleton with this important project."

Work on the project is expected to begin this fall and be completed by the end of the year.
