Two Provincial Camping Parks Not Open

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Two provincial parks are not open for camping. The campgrounds at Wentworth Provincial Park in Cumberland County and Salt Springs Provincial Park in Pictou County are closed. The Department of Natural Resources will continue to operate the day use areas of both parks.

The department will issue another call for proposals to operate the campground at Wentworth Park after being unsuccessful in reaching a management agreement with a previous applicant.

Salt Springs Park will not open this season because of safety concerns resulting from flood damage in the park this past spring. Caribou-Munroes Island Provincial Park, located nearby, offers new, larger sites with central flush toilets and showers.

"Our staff are committed to providing visitors to our provincial parks with the best possible camping experience," said Tim Olive, Minister of Natural Resources. "We will put out a request to the public sector to operate Wentworth Park and we will review the situation at Saltsprings Park."

The Department of Natural Resources continues to operate 20 camping parks throughout Nova Scotia. Many parks opened on May 16; the remaining campgrounds open on Friday, June 20. They include Amherst Shore, Cumberland Co.; Battery, Richmond Co.; Boylston and Salsman, Guysborough Co.; Caribou-Munroes Island, Pictou Co.; Laurie, Halifax Regional Municipality; Mira River, Cape Breton Regional Municipality; Smileys, Hants Co.; Valleyview, Annapolis Co.; and Whycocomagh, Inverness Co.
