Sites Narrowed for New Justice Centre

Justice

The list of potential sites for a $10 million justice centre in Lunenburg County is now down to four.

"We're actively reviewing many of the technical and operational details to make sure we choose the best possible location," said Justice Minister Michael Baker. "We've been able to narrow the list from six to four. So we'll continue the process with a view to making a decision as soon as possible."

The new justice centre will include four courtrooms, administrative offices and space for related agencies such as the public prosecution service, legal aid, community corrections and others. It will consolidate services now being provided in separate locations.

"I want to thank members of the Lunenburg County Court Facility Users' Committee for their valuable input," said Mr. Baker. Members reviewed the six proposed sites that initially came forward, listened to presentations by the property owners and proposed four sites for further consideration.

Construction work continues on the Port Hawkesbury Justice Centre, a $10 million project due to be completed by late spring or early summer next year.
