New Provincial Building for Lunenburg

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Lunenburg is getting a new provincial building.

Richard Hurlburt, Minister of Natural Resources, announced plans for the construction of the building today, June 7. He was joined by Michael Baker, Minister of Justice.

"The current work space is 20- to 30-years-old and requires upgrading," said Mr. Hurlburt. "The new building will provide an opportunity to move our fire depots to one site, making it more efficient for clients and staff."

The new building will also include a biology lab, an enforcement office, an interview room and an exhibit room. Geographic information system staff and survey staff from the Department of Natural Resources will also work from one location, making it possible to share new, up-to-date equipment.

The building will be more than 19,000 square feet in size and will be the western regional office for the Department of Natural Resources. It will also house offices for staff of Nova Scotia Health Promotion and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The facility will be built on the corner of Green Street and Dufferin Street, Lunenburg.

Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2006.
