Porters Lake Provincial Park Walkabouts

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Nature lovers can once again take a walk through Porters Lake Provincial Park in Halifax County. The public can visit the park to see first-hand how the restoration process is going on Sunday, June 26, Sunday, July 3 and Sunday, July 10. The park will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The park, extensively damaged during Hurricane Juan, is in the final stages of restoration. Work will be suspended on these three days to ensure the safety of visitors.

"We are inviting people to drop by for a walkabout prior to the official opening in mid-July to allow them a chance to get to know the newly designed park and to showcase the final stages of work," said Natural Resources Minister Richard Hurlburt.

The park officially opens for weekends only beginning Friday, July 15. Campers will have access to camping sites on the island area of the park from 1 p.m. on Fridays to 1 p.m. on Sundays. Reservations can be made beginning on Monday, July 4.

Additional camping sites, with full-week camping, will be ready for use starting on Friday, Aug. 12. All campsites will be ready for use by early September, when the RV drive-through sites are completed.

"We think that park users will be pleased with our new park and we are extremely excited to see the reaction," said Mr. Hurlburt.
