Cornwallis Park Receives Infrastructure Funding

Residents in Cornwallis Park, Annapolis Co., will have an upgraded water treatment plant, thanks to funding through the Canada-Nova Scotia Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund.

More than 250 households in Cornwallis Park currently connected to the municipal water system will have improved drinking water and improved service reliability, thanks to the design and upgrade of the water treatment facility. Completion of this project will also ensure compliance with Nova Scotia's drinking water quality standards.

Federal and provincial funding of $700,000 was announced today, Oct. 16. The Municipality of the County of Annapolis will fund the balance upon formal acceptance of the agreement and environmental assessment approval.

"Providing a safe and reliable supply of drinking water is essential to build strong communities and improve our quality of life," said Jamie Muir, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "Residents in Cornwallis Park will notice an immediate change for the better once this project is completed."

"Canada's investment in this plant will provide a steady supply of very good quality water for the people of Cornwallis Park for years to come," said Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

"Today's announcement will enable us to move forward with providing our residents with safer drinking water," said Peter Newton, Warden of the Municipality of the County of Annapolis. "This project will have a significant impact on the health of our community."

The $111-million, six-year Canada-Nova Scotia Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund is administered by ACOA and Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation and the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities are members of the management committee.
