Prix Grand-Pré Nomination Deadline Approaching

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

The deadline is approaching to nominate an artist for the 2007 Prix Grand-Pré.

Each year, the province recognizes an artist from one of three categories whose work reflects Acadian cultural values and traditions. This year's $2,000 prize will be awarded to an established performing arts or film artist.

Nominations must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage on Monday, April 16, no later than 4:30 p.m.

"The Prix Grand-Pré raises the profile of artists within the arts community, the Acadian community and across the province," said Len Goucher, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. "Our Acadian heritage is an integral part of who we are, and we are pleased to honour an outstanding Acadian Nova Scotian artist with this prize each year."

The Grand-Pré Prize was established in 1987 to recognize the work of Acadian Nova Scotians in the performing arts and film, visual arts and crafts, and literary arts. The prize recognizes artists whose work reflects Acadian cultural values and traditions, while demonstrating excellence and originality.

"There are many talented Acadian artists across the province working in various disciplines," said Chris d'Entremont, Minister of Acadian Affairs. "We are pleased that this year's prize will recognize the value that performing artists and filmmakers bring to our unique heritage."

Previous Prix Grand-Pré winners include singer/songwriter Eric Surette; photographer Francois Gaudet; artisan Denise Robicheau; writer Father Anselme Chiasson; filmmaker Phil Comeau; visual artists Denise Comeau and Simone D'Eon; writer René LeBlanc; folk artist William Roach; and author Alain Raimbault.

Information on the Prix Grand-Pré and nominations forms are available on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca or by contacting Lois Ward at 902-424-6392 or wardlm@gov.ns.ca .
