Residents getting firewood delivered to their homes will automatically receive the eight per cent Your Energy Rebate. The government has changed the program to include firewood for residential use as a point-of-sale rebate.

"Any time we can make things easier for Nova Scotians, we're going to try to do it," said Jamie Muir, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "This improvement will provide an immediate benefit and will give Nova Scotians a break from their home energy costs."

Your Energy Rebate was launched in December 2006 to help people with the rising cost of home energy by rebating the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

Initially, those having firewood delivered to their houses were required to apply for the rebate. The change makes the rebate effective immediately at the point of sale.

Bill Dooks, Minister responsible for Conserve Nova Scotia, says the rebate change comes at an optimal time of year for Nova Scotians planning on heating their homes with wood this winter.

"By purchasing wood now, homeowners have enough time to properly season the wood so it burns efficiently when they need it," said Mr. Dooks. "Smart wood burning not only saves money and improves safety, it also helps reduce emissions."
