Guysborough Wins the 2007 Municipal InNOVAward

The Municipality of the District of Guysborough has won this year's Municipal InNOVAward for its development and implementation of a creative solution to solid waste management.

"This project is an example of what can be accomplished through planning and partnership," said Premier Rodney MacDonald. "Sustainable initiatives like this one are the key to building and maintaining strong, healthy communities across the province."

This initiative involves the long-term coordination of waste management between the District of Guysborough and 16 other municipalities. The partnership will help provide the essential service of solid waste management in a cost-effective and sustainable manner.

The InNOVAward was presented by Premier MacDonald at the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities Annual Conference, in Halifax, on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Warden Lloyd Hines accepted the award on behalf of the District of Guysborough.

The InNOVAward recognizes excellence in the use of innovative approaches to the delivery of municipal programs and services. This marks the second time the Municipality of the District of Guysborough has received the award since it was introduced in 2002.
