Deer Advisory, Highway 2

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Motorists are being asked to use caution as they travel on Highway 2 between Portapique, and Five Islands, Colchester Co., due to deer on and near the highway.

In the past few days, multiple deer have been hit on this section of Highway 2. Motorists are advised to be particularly cautious during early mornings and evenings, when deer are most often feeding near roads.

"Snow and cold temperatures at higher elevations force deer to lower sections of the province, making developed coastal areas more populated with deer than usual," said Kim George, regional biologist, Department of Natural Resources. "Deer can become very tame and dart out in front of traffic at a moment's notice, so please drive with caution."

If a deer is hit, or seen obstructing traffic, notify the local Department of Natural Resources office.
