Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

Nova Scotia baseball fans are celebrating the Boston Red Sox' 2007 World Series victory as the series trophy and Red Sox mascot arrive in Halifax today, Jan. 7.

The trophy is spending two days in the province. Premier Rodney MacDonald will welcome members of the Red Sox staff at a reception at Province House today. The trophy will be available for public viewing at MicMac Mall and the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame tomorrow, Jan. 8.

Bill Dooks, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, said he is pleased to welcome staff from the Major League Baseball team to the province.

"We're happy to bring the Boston Red Sox trophy to the province and join the celebration of their spectacular win in the World Series," said Mr. Dooks. "We're always eager to share our province with visitors, especially from key target markets like Boston, and offer them our famous Nova Scotia hospitality."

Nova Scotia has a dedicated group of fans called the Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood that helped secure the trophy's visit to the province.

"This visit by the Red Sox means the world to fans here in Nova Scotia," said brotherhood co-founder Jim Prime. "We're honoured to have this opportunity to share in the Red Sox victory and to give sports fans in the province a chance to see the World Series Trophy up close."

The 2007 World Series Trophy and mascot, Wally the Green Monster, will be at:

  • Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame, 1800 Argyle St., Suite 446 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • MicMac Mall, 21 MicMac Blvd., 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The Red Sox are also bringing the trophy to private events at the IWK Health Centre and St. Patrick's-Alexandra Elementary School.
