Highway 125 Information Session Planned

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Sydney area residents will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed twinning of Highway 125 between Sydney River and Grand Lake Road.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal will host a public information session on Wednesday, Jan. 16, to review the proposed alignment with area residents and businesses.

"This is an important project for the Sydney region as it improves the only major highway linking Sydney and Glace Bay to the Trans Canada Highway," said Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "This open house will help us finalize a design that best serves the communities and the travelling public."

The project's length is about 8.6 kilometres and the estimated cost is $23-million. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011 or 2012, depending on available funding. A fact sheet and diagram for the project are available online at: www.gov.ns.ca/tran/finalfactsheet.pdf.

The open house will be held at Lady of Fatima Church, 1483 Kings Rd., beginning at 5:30 p.m.
