Police Services Consultations Underway

Justice

Justice Minister and Attorney General Cecil Clarke is consulting with law enforcement agencies, municipalities and other justice interest groups on the future of policing services in Nova Scotia.

During the next year, the Justice Department's Public Safety Division will review submissions and proposals on whether the current services need to change. Policing services in Nova Scotia are provided by both RCMP and municipal police forces.

One of factors driving the consultation is that in 2012 the current contract with the RCMP expires.

"High quality policing services are critical to the safety and security of the province," said Mr. Clarke.

"We are exploring the best policing options for Nova Scotia and as we move through this process, we will be discussing policing needs and options with law enforcement representatives, interested groups and individuals."
