$2.7 Million in Road-paving Contracts for Colchester County

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Two road-paving contracts in Colchester County valued at $2,713,730 have been awarded by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

The first contract, for $1,392,315, was awarded to Basin Contracting Ltd. and is to repave the northbound lanes of Highway 102 from the Irwin Lake Rd. overpass, north for six kilometres to exit 13.

The second contract, for $1,321,415, was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. for repaving on Route 256 (Balmoral Road), from the intersection of Matheson Brook Rd., east for 5.5 kilometres to the intersection of Route 326.

These projects are scheduled for completion this summer.

"Good roads are a necessity to keep people and business moving safely throughout Nova Scotia," said Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "Investments like the ones we're making with these two contracts pay dividends by providing employment and keeping traffic on the move."

These projects are part of government's commitment to better roads and infrastructure as outlined in the speech from the throne.

The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
