NOTE: A list of organizations receiving grants follows the release.

More than 30 communities are receiving one-time grants this week from the Department of Justice for projects that support Nova Scotia's crime prevention strategy, Time to Fight Crime Together.

In total, $250,000 is being distributed to 45 groups across the province. The majority of projects are aimed at young people. The funding will help pay for events, activities and equipment that give Nova Scotians the opportunity to participate in community programs.

"We are doing our best to support partners who want to prevent crime," said Justice Minister Cecil Clarke."These grants will help fund activities that youth are interested in doing so they are less likely to be involved in crime."

Organizations receiving the grants had submitted proposals that meet the goals of the strategy.

"These grants will greatly benefit communities by targeting young people with various programs that we hope will expand their interests and develop new skills and abilities," said Mr. Clarke.

Last month, nine grants were given to community organizations as part of African Heritage Month.
