Dangerous Prisoner Escapes

The Justice Department is notifying the public about a Halifax man who escaped today, April 3, from the custody of two staff of the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility during an escort to a day-surgery appointment.

Jermaine Carvery, 30, who is facing charges of attempted murder and hostage-taking, escaped at the Victoria General Hospital (Centennial Bldg.), at 1:15 p.m.

Police have been advised and are on-site. Correctional staff remain on-site to assist police in spotting and recapturing the offender.

Mr. Carvery is currently remanded into custody on numerous charges, some or all which are related to a hostage-taking. Among the charges are attempted murder, robbery, hostage-taking, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, unauthorized possession of a firearm, intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of stolen property.
