Camping Season Begins

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Nova Scotia Provincial Parks are opening for another season of camping, hiking, picnics and exploring nature's resorts.

"We believe that our parks are a great part of our province's charm," said Natural Resources Minister David Morse. "We are looking forward to another season of outdoor recreation. Our parks are the perfect place to experience active living and healthy lifestyles."

Cape Chignecto in Cumberland County opened May 9, and Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park in Colchester County begins daily operations on Thursday, May 15.

On Friday, May 16, all day-use provincial parks will open, as well as the following camping parks:

  • Blomidon, Kings County
  • Dollar Lake, Halifax Regional Municipality
  • Ellenwood Lake, Yarmouth County
  • Porters Lake, Halifax Regional Municipality
  • Rissers Beach, Lunenburg County
  • Thomas Raddall, Queens County
  • The Islands, Shelburne County

The rest of Nova Scotia's provincial parks open mid-June.

For the comfort and safety of all campers, an alcohol-free period will be in effect at all provincial parks until July 2.

Because of post-tropical storm Noel, and routine spring clean up, repairs may cause some inconvenience to park users. Some areas of parks will be closed for repair work, but Department of Natural Resources staff are working to minimize the disruption. Park users are asked to respect warning signs advising users to keep out of closed areas.
