Justice Receives Occupational Health and Safety Report

The Department of Justice received a report of a workplace inspection from the Department Of Labour and Workforce Development on Monday, June 9.

The one order contained within the report states that correctional officers on outside escorts and hospital supervision of offenders be provided with intermediate weapons such as Oleoresin Capsicum, more commonly known as pepper spray, and/or batons and/or TASERs.

The report and compliance order is being reviewed by Justice officials. The department has been given until Tuesday, June 24 to comply with the order.

The report and compliance order have been posted at correctional institutions throughout the province.
