Long Lake Provincial Park Open House

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The Department of Natural Resources and Long Lake Provincial Park Association want public input on a draft park management plan.
Two open houses to discuss the future plans for Long Lake Provincial Park in Halifax Regional Municipality are being held Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26 from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Captain William Spry Community Centre, 10 Kidston Rd., Spryfield.

"Anyone interested in Long Lake Provincial Park is encouraged to attend the open houses," said Brian Kinsman, senior parks planner, Department of Natural Resources. "Participants are invited to review and discuss the draft management plan, which is intended to provide a vision for the park and a framework to guide park management over the next 10 to 15 years."

Located in the Harrietsfield-Goodwood area of HRM, the 2,095-hectare park includes three lakes, diverse habitats, historic features, and opportunities for a range of nature-based outdoor recreation experiences. Currently no facilities or services are provided.

Public use of Long Lake Provincial Park has increased significantly in recent years. As a result, there is an increase in demand for the provision of facilities and services.

"The draft plan seeks to preserve the park's natural and cultural heritage values, provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and education on protection, provide a limited range of facilities and services, and ensure public access, safety and use," said Mr. Kinsman. "All input will be considered in preparing the final park management plan, which is expected to be completed this fall."

The draft management plan is be available online at www.gov.ns.ca/natr/parks/long-lake.htm . Written comments can be left at the open house or e-mailed to bkinsman@gov.ns.ca by July 11.
