Gaelic Folklife School and Concert

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

Highland Village Museum will host a celebration for language learners and cultural enthusiasts from July 30 to August 2.

Stòras Gaelic Folklife School and Celebration will feature presentations, interactive demonstrations and crafts, with a focus on Gaelic Nova Scotia, and conclude with the 47th Annual Highland Village Day Scotch Concert.

Presenters include well-known researchers and artists such as University of Edinburgh's John Shaw and recording artist Mary Jane Lamond.

Participants will also discover how technology can enhance Gaelic learning with an introduction to the Gael-Stream Digitization project, an online digital archive of Gaelic Nova Scotian information, by Susan Cameron, project chair.

The annual Highland Village Day Scotch Concert, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Aug. 2, will open with the RCMP Halifax division Pipe Band and include the Iona Gaelic Singers, the Boisdale Trio, Carl MacKenzie, Paul MacNeil, Tracey Dares, and Brent Aucoin. The concert will also showcase talent from the Highland Village Museum staff with Gaelic Singer Joanne MacIntyre, and All Fired Up - Keith, Kyle and Colin MacDonald.
