Changes Made To Provincial Park Season

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Long Point and South West Margaree day-use provincial parks are closed for the season because of damage from flooding.

After heavy rain last weekend caused flooding in many areas, provincial parks were assessed for damage. Potentially hazardous damage to roadways, timber and structures was found at Long Point and South West Margaree parks.

"The damage casued by the recent heavy rains is not able to be repaired before the scheduled closing date of Oct. 13," said Natural Resource provincial parks director Harold Carroll. "In the best interest of our visitors, we have decided to close these parks due to safety concerns."

Park-goers are also advised of an extended season at Whycocomagh Provincial Park in Inverness County. People attending the Celtic Colours International Festival, Oct. 10 to 18, can take advantage of the extended camping season. The park will close for the season Monday, Oct. 20.

All other day parks close on Oct. 13, while camping parks have varied closing dates. For more information on the closing dates of provincial parks, visit www.novascotiaparks.ca .
