Province Hosts DEMO International 2008 Live Forestry Show

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Building the future through responsible management is the theme of Department of Natural Resources's exhibit at the DEMO International 2008 live forestry show. Nova Scotians can experience the world-class event from Sept. 18 to 20 in Devon, Halifax Co.

"This is a really exciting time for Nova Scotia's forest industry. We are changing the way we do business to accommodate changing global market conditions," said Natural Resources Minister David Morse. "Through DEMO, our forest practices will be on the world's stage. We can demonstrate the steps we are taking toward a healthy economy and diverse forests for many years to come."

The show is being hosted for the first time in Atlantic Canada. It features more than 100 exhibitors and is expected to attract more than 5,000 people from across the country and around the world.

The department will have 1.5 hectares of forest to demonstrate how it provides advice and services that help manage the province's natural resources now and in the future.

Visitors to the department's exhibit will have the chance to meet winners of the Woodlot Owner of the Year award, talk to department officials about Nova Scotia's forests, see spectacular aerial images of the province, and learn about endangered species.

A special feature of this year's show will be the participation of about 500 elementary school children from nearby schools in Halifax and Hants counties. Department of Natural Resources tour guides will bring the students through exhibits on wildlife management, sustainable forest management techniques, protecting forests from wildfire, pests and diseases, and future potential careers in natural resource management. Students will also have a chance to watch the latest forestry equipment in action.

"Nova Scotia is honoured and proud to host DEMO in 2008 and wishes the show organizers, exhibitors, and participants a successful event," said Mr. Morse.
