Long-serving police officers from mainland Nova Scotia were recognized today, Oct. 21, for their contributions by Premier Rodney MacDonald and Justice Minister and Attorney General Cecil Clarke in the second ceremony in the inaugural Nova Scotia Provincial Police Long Service Award Program.

Two-hundred-and-forty recipients from mainland Nova Scotia were given medals at a ceremony in Halifax.

"These inaugural awards recognize our longest-serving members who deserve our support and thanks for their public service," said the premier.

They join 104 from Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Guysborough County and Antigonish County. They were recognized at a ceremony in Membertou on Sept. 22.

The new provincial program recognizes police officers who have served in the province for 15 and 25 straight years.

"Without the hard work and dedication of these officers, Nova Scotia would not be the safe and secure place to live and work that we now enjoy," said Mr. Clarke. "As Justice Minister, I'm pleased we have developed this important new recognition program to show our appreciation for the difficult work they do on the front lines every day."
