Musquodoboit Rural High Officially Opens

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

About 400 students in Middle Musquodoboit are enjoying a new safe and healthy learning environment at Musquodoboit Rural High School.

Education Minister Karen Casey joined students, parents, teachers, staff, school board and government officials today, Dec. 2, for the school's opening ceremony.

"Educating for good jobs in Nova Scotia is one of government's priorities," said Ms. Casey. "A new school can inspire young people and teachers alike. It becomes a gathering place and a source of community pride."

The $15.7-million school welcomes students from grades 7 to 12. It was constructed near where the original Musquodoboit high school was built in 1950.

"As a former teacher, you can tell Musquodoboit Rural High was built with the needs of all of its students in mind. It was designed in a way that signifies to students that their education and their dreams matter," said Steve Brine, vice-chair of the Halifax Regional School Board and representative for the Musquodoboit area. "To me, this will be Musquodoboit Rural High's legacy and I want to thank the province of Nova Scotia for making the school a reality."

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal oversaw the school's construction. It was designed by Harvey and MacKenzie Architects and built by Maxim Construction.

First announced in 2003, Musquodoboit Rural High School was built through the province's multi-year, $400-million capital construction program.
