Minister Celebrates Earth Day in Sydney

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Grade 4 students at Brookland Elementary School in Sydney observed Earth Day with Environment Minister David Morse and staff from the local Department of Environment office.

"Having the opportunity to celebrate Earth Day with the next generation of environmental stewards serves as an important reminder that we all have a role to play in preserving and protecting our environment," said Mr. Morse, today, April 22.

Mr. Morse and staff led students in an interactive eco-trivia game, testing their knowledge and understanding of environmental issues.

"I am proud that these students have such a good understanding of local and international environmental issues," said Mr. Morse. "It is also clear to me that they value the environment and want to do what they can to make sure it is healthy."

Students were given a tree sappling to take home and plant as a reminder to them and their families to be good environmental stewards all year long.

Earth Day began in the United States in 1970 as a day to raise awareness about environmental issues. Now, more than one billion people in 170 countries participate in Earth Day activities.
