$3.9-Million Road Paving Contract Awarded

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

The roads of Victoria County will be humming not only with tourists this summer but also with construction equipment, thanks to a $3.9-million road-improvement contract awarded by the province.

The $3,888,206 contract was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. to repave Highway 105 from Exit 10 west for 4.4 kilometres and east of the intersection of Big Harbour for 1.8 kilometres. The contract also includes repaving 5.5 kilometres of the Big Baddeck Road and repairs to the Buchanan Bridge.

"This is part of government's commitment to fix rural roads and keep communities strong," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "The short-term inconvenience to drivers will be rewarded with smoother and stronger highways when the project is completed."

The highways division of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro, and Sydney.
