Tenders Issued for More Road Improvements

Several Nova Scotia communities will benefit from improved culverts, bridges, and residential streets that are among the highway improvement tenders called today, July 22.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is advertising tenders valued at $7 million for 30 road projects in two counties and two regional municipalities as part of the province's highway construction program.

"We're working closely with funding partners to make sure Nova Scotians get the most for their road-improvement dollars," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "Good roads equal strong communities."

Three of the five tenders involve cost-sharing with either the federal government or municipalities. The province is scheduled to spend $325 million on highway construction and major maintenance projects this year, surpassing last year's amount by more than $100 million.

The tenders released today are:

• Cape Breton Regional Municipality, paving sections of 14 residential streets, for a total of 3.2 kilometres
• Halifax Regional Municipality, construction of an overpass over Highway 101 as part of the new Margeson Drive interchange
• Halifax Regional Municipality, paving sections of 13 residential streets in the Porters Lake area, for a total of 4.7 kilometres
• Hants County, painting St. Croix River Bridge on Highway 101
• Lunenburg County, culvert replacement on Trunk 14, 18 kilometres north of the Highway 103 interchange.
