Free Admission to Maritime Museum on Natal Day

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

As a way of thanking the community for its support throughout the year, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax is offering free general admission on Natal Day, Monday, Aug. 3.

In addition to the museum galleries and CSS Acadia, people can explore the Freedom Schooner Amistad, which will be visiting the museum wharf. Amistad is visiting Nova Scotia as part of celebrations to mark the 175th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. Amistad will be open to the public on Natal Day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In the 61 year history of the Maritime Museum, it has benefitted from community support in numerous ways including artifact donations, volunteer time, program and event partnerships.

"We believe strongly that the museum, and the stories it tells through exhibits and programs, should be shared with everyone," said Kim Reinhardt, manager of the Maritime Museum. "This is one small way of working towards that goal."

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is located at 1675 Lower Water St., in Halifax. It is open daily, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays.
