Tender Called for Fairview Overpass Replacement

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal has called a tender to replace the older section of the Fairview overpass.

While up to three lanes will stay open to drivers during construction, delays should be expected, particularly during peak hours.

"The Fairview overpass is a crucial Halifax corridor," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "We will be replacing the south side of the overpass to ensure that it continues to serve drivers in Halifax well into the future."

The tender calls for the demolition of the south side of the overpass and construction of the replacement structure. Construction is expected to begin in early fall and to be completed this winter.

"HRM acknowledges this construction is going to create frustrating traffic delays for motorists but, public safety first, it is essential this work be completed in a timely manner," said Mayor Peter Kelly.

Traffic advisories will be issued before the start of construction. Drivers may want to consider alternate routes or travel times during the construction period.
