Nova Scotia Mental Health Court Opens Today

Justice

A specialized mental health court, the first of its kind in Nova Scotia, opened today, Nov. 2, at the Dartmouth Provincial Court, 277 Pleasant St., Dartmouth.

Justice Minister Ross Landry announced the specialized court in August. The court will hold its first session on Thursday, Nov. 5.

The court's goal is to treat Nova Scotians with mental disorders who commit criminal offences, fairly and compassionately and to help them improve their mental health to reduce the risk to public safety.
