Grant Program to Help Youth Programs

Justice

Nova Scotia youth involved in community recreational activities will benefit from a new grant program launched today, Nov. 12, by the Department of Justice.

The new Lighthouses Program is accepting proposals from community groups that provide recreational, educational, cultural and life-skills programs for youth across Nova Scotia.

"Government is following through with its commitments and one of them is to support crime prevention through this Lighthouse Program, which will encourage youth to get involved in after school recreational programs," said Justice Minister Ross Landry.

"Youth are part of our communities and we must support them through programs that provide a safe environment and help build their self esteem."

The new crime prevention program will provide $12,000 to 10 organizations.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 15, 2009. Applications and criteria can be downloaded at www.gov.ns.ca/just .
