Union, Employer Team Congratulated on Reaching Tentative Agreement

Premier's Office

Deputy Premier Frank Corbett congratulated union and employer negotiating teams for reaching a tentative agreement for janitors, bus drivers and other school support workers across the province.

Representatives of CUPE and all school boards outside of the Halifax region reached the tentative agreement today, Jan. 17. The agreement averts a strike that had been scheduled for Monday.

"This is good news," said Mr. Corbett. "I'm very pleased that the negotiators were able to work out this tentative agreement. It will be a great relief to parents and students right across the province."

No details of the tentative agreement will be released until member ratification votes are complete.

All schools will be open as usual tomorrow. Parents who rely on school buses are encouraged to monitor radio newscasts or check the websites of their school boards.
