Spring Weight Restrictions Start Monday

Spring weight restrictions for heavy trucks will come into effect across the province at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, March 1.

Milder temperatures mean provincial roads are more susceptible to damage from heavy trucks. The restrictions are usually removed in late April or early May.

"We keep a close eye on the temperatures and the road surfaces when determining the best time to close the roads," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "We have a lot of valuable road surfaces that need protection at this time of year but we also understand the need to give the trucking industry as much notice as possible."

An up-to-date status report on weight restrictions, along with a list of roads that are exempt, is posted on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran .
