Housekeeping Amendment to Motor Vehicle Act

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

The province has introduced a housekeeping amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act related to road classification and the trucking industry.

"Our primary goal is to keep our roads safe while, at the same time, allowing the trucking industry to remain competitive," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

The proposed amendment will lessen the complexity and confusion of changes to highway weight and dimension regulations. This will make the re-classification process more efficient, and therefore more economical for the industry.

The department works closely with the commercial trucking industry to ensure the safety and integrity of the highway system in Nova Scotia.
