Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

Nova Scotians are encouraged to get out and enjoy their favorite things to do and experience in the province during National Tourism Week from today to June 13.

Tourism contributes $1.8 billion annually to Nova Scotia's economy and employs more than 31,000 people across the province.

"This week is about celebrating the industry and the important contribution it makes by creating good jobs and growing the economy," said Percy Paris, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. "During Tourism Week, we want to remind Nova Scotians that there is so much happening and so much to do right here in Nova Scotia."

Nova Scotians vacationing within the province are very important to the tourism industry. Each year, Nova Scotians take more than five million trips within the province, generating more than $815 million for the Nova Scotia economy.

"As tourism is everyone's business, we're encouraging Nova Scotians to find something new to experience here at home this summer," said Mr. Paris.

The provincial government invests more than $25 million annually in programs and services to support the growth of the tourism industry as it seeks to make life better for families in all parts of Nova Scotia.
